The detection area is really wide, i.e. reacts to those approaching from behind in the same direction even when driving on a light traffic lane next to the roadway, even on the left if the roadways are not multi-lane. Especially necessary in dark "community traffic", where the naked eye only notices a larger number of light points without avoiding (without stopping) figuring out which ones are approaching.
