Located on the border of Urho Kekkonen National Park, Kiilopää is a hiker's dream. It is surrounded by a unique network of marked routes and wilderness trails. This guide will lead you along these paths into the nature of the fells for day trips and hikes all year round.
The routes serve as the red thread of the book. Esteemed wilderness connoisseur Jouni Laaksonen goes through the day trips, hiking trails, ski trips and ski hikes he recommends in order. Laaksonen tells what kind of wonderful routes are available for day hikers vacationing in Kiilopää and where to go from Kiilopää for a week-long hike. The book also presents the history and nature of the area, as well as the attractions and historical sites along the routes. Numerous tips will help you avoid dangers and enjoy the wonderful nature of Lapland.
On the map accompanying the book, the routes are conveniently presented with their own distinctive color. This way you can easily understand what kind of run each tire route makes. On the front side is a 1:50,000 scale map that reaches far beyond Sokosti. Recommended hikes and Sompio's day trip routes are marked on this map. Day trips and ski trips are shown on the more accurate scale (1:25,000) map of the surroundings of Kiilopää in the background. The deserts in the area are listed on the side of the map with their basic information and coordinates.
The map made of Tyvek material is waterproof and tear-resistant.
Jouni Laaksonen lives in Kuhmo and is a non-fiction writer dedicated to camping, a tour guide and a graduate engineer. He has explored the northern wildernesses and hiking destinations many times and has written a dozen books and hundreds of journal articles about his experiences. The valley is particularly interesting for wildernesses, long Lapland hikes, national parks, day trips with the family and deserts. He was awarded the Finnish non-fiction writers' Non-fiction Writer's Award in 2016.
The book was made in cooperation with Suomen Latu.
