When temperatures drop below freezing and paths are blanketed in snow and unpredictable ice, most runners start retreating to indoor tracks or treadmills. But for those of us familiar with BUGrip® technology, that’s exactly when the real fun begins. Having just laced up my fourth consecutive pair, I can say with absolute certainty: there is no better footwear for extreme winter conditions. Unmatched Grip and Intelligence The undisputed star of the show is the carbide-studded outsole. The BUGrip system isn't just a random arrangement of spikes; it’s a smart technology where the studs dynamically adapt to the surface: On Pure Ice: The studs bite relentlessly into the surface. The sensation is almost supernatural—where you would normally slip in standard running shoes, BUGrip allows you to accelerate with total confidence. On Snow: The deep lug profile ensures rock-solid stability in both fresh powder and hard-packed snow. Zero Slips: The power transfer from your leg to the ground is direct and secure. This drastically reduces the risk of injury and prevents the muscle fatigue that usually comes from constantly fighting for balance. Quality That Earns Loyalty The fact that I am currently on my fourth pair speaks louder than any marketing brochure. Icebug has successfully engineered a shoe that doesn't just offer safety, but also the comfort and durability expected of high-performance running gear. "Once you experience Icebug BUGrip, winter running doesn't end with the first snowfall—it becomes your favorite season of the year." The Verdict If you are searching for footwear that can handle "all types of winter conditions," your search ends here. Icebug BUGrip are uncompromising running shoes. Their extraordinary traction transforms icy trails into a safe playground, giving runners total freedom of movement regardless of what nature throws their way.

These shoes have a very good grip on loose snow. I've never tried shoes, sneakers or any other winter shoes, where the grip on snow would be as good. Grip on ice is also excellent thanks to the studs.
The bar is wide and the work quality is good.
I give four stars and not five because the shoes are not waterproof. Waterproofing is not a problem on short runs in freezing temperatures, but there is snow on longer runs. When it snows and/or you run in the snow, little by little snow flakes start to stick to your shoes, which melt when you run. After running 5 km this is not a problem yet, but around 10 km the socks and the inside of the shoes start to feel wet and heavy.
For the capital region, I don't recommend these as the only winter sneakers, at least. Here at the height of Tampere, these already have a lot of use, because there are plenty of snowy weather.
Hopefully a waterproof version will be available in the future.
