I've used Saucony shoes, but because of the studs I got these Hokas. My first shoes from that manufacturer and unfortunately my last. They felt comfortable on my feet at first and had good grip when running. However, the opening of the shoe rubs against the side of my foot so that running is painful. Thicker socks or adjusting the laces don't help. A good shoe, if it fits the foot, it doesn't fit me.| Overall rating |
The first studded sneakers and the first HOKAs I own. Since the first fitting, the fit has been practically perfect. The shoe has been used in the harsh frosts of spring 2026 in Espoo, on the street, paths and dirt roads, the surfaces of which have been mainly hard packed snow. About 100 kilometers have been accumulated by the time of this review. In addition to running, the shoes have been used extensively as casual footwear; I think they are really good-looking slippers. Strong recommendation! I am normally a size 10.5 but I took size 11 for these.| Overall rating |
Great on the ice and snow. Normal comfort of a Hoka. These let me run when the trail has frozen hard.

Ran with these 4 times (61km total distance) since receiving on predominantly icy (base) loose or very lightly packed snow covering side walks, streets, and park trails. Toe box is a bit narrower than other HOKAs I have (Challenger 7 GTX, Challenger 8, and Mach X 2 — all of which I have found to offer „more room than normal.“ Still, my flat feet have been comfortable even though I have worn thicker/felted wool hiking socks each time so far. With good purchase, feels like a very grippy, firm trail shoe. On ice-based snow, slight caking of snow between the treads seems to be unavoidable. That being said, steeper uphills and downhills (on same ice snow combo) that seemed risky to me were safer/grippier than running same terrain in the rain on street shoes (e.g. Mach X 2). First time owning anything with spikes like this but had considered (and tried on) Asics Fujisetsu Max GTX as well before deciding for the Speedgoats. By my estimation, the treads are shallower than the Fujisetsu’s, so maybe less caking would happen with the Fujisetsu but don‘t know this as I didn‘t keep the Fujisetsu. Maybe my expectations were too low, but I am very happy that I decided to get these. They have kept me running when I would otherwise be forced to settle for an indoor cycling trainer. They almost make me wish for more days of ice rain in Berlin… almost.
