The basic idea behind the clipstick is good, and the clips are easy to use. The workmanship and design also initially seem well thought out.
However, the pole became permanently deformed during its very first use and has since become extremely difficult to extend and retract, making it essentially a waste of money.
To be fair, I should mention that some of the deformation likely resulted from fully extending the pole on the ground and then lifting it. In response to my complaint, the manufacturer advised extending the sections one at a time while holding the pole vertically. I can understand this.
Nevertheless, the main problem remains: when fully extended, the pole is practically unusable because it becomes extremely wobbly and unstable. With the normal weight of a quickdraw and rope, it bends excessively. This causes so much vibration that precise clipping becomes nearly impossible.
If a product is advertised as being 6.45 m long for climbing (I understand this to include the weight of the rope and quickdraws), then in my opinion this length should be realistically usable. Otherwise, the construction would need to be more robust or the maximum length shorter.| Overall rating |
