I was looking for lightweight, sneaker-style mid-height (black) and wide-soled shoes that I can wear in bad weather, hike and play soldier. I got them, but the color and appearance are borderline unsuitable for military play, and there is hardly any IR protection. Compared to Altra running shoes (of which I already own 3 different models), the size is a bit small in these, so I had to choose a size larger. The higher upper, the tongue of the shoe and its padding are clearly not Altra's strengths, you have to adjust the shoes a bit when putting them on and tightening them so that the seams and buckles etc. don't really put any pressure on the instep/ankle. The real testing of the shoes will only come in a couple of months on a weekend-long march, but the credit is for about 30km of test run and a good 10kg backpack when tested at high altitude!

These Timpi are also particularly light and are well suited for hybrid use on the road and on the street.
