Messy to use. Doesn't withstand rain at all, not even water splashing from a wet road. Chains must be dried before re-installing. Wax drying time 12 hours. Not a viable solution if you cycle, for example, to work every day. Top product if it is only possible to cycle in dry weather.| Overall rating |
A liquid that spreads easily on the chain (it really tends to get messy), but requires at least 12 hours of drying time, giving the chain a waxy protective layer. Immediately after application, it looks a bit messy and when you rotate the chain backwards, it flakes and starts to mess up the bike and the surroundings. In use in autumn weather, it kept the chain quiet on the first ride just fine. After a damp morning ride, the bike dried out for a day at work and when I went home, I wiped the chain with my finger to see what had accumulated on the chain and thin black streaks of dirt and more white flakes remained on my fingers. I rode home in the rain and rinsed the bike and wiped the chain as soon as I got home. The next morning, the chain still had black lines on my fingers, but there were also white areas on the chain here and there where there was a bit of wax.| Overall rating |
I cycled Espoo – Salo – Espoo (110 km + 110 km) on a road bike with freshly waxed chains. The chains had been carefully cleaned and waxed with Black Magik.
The trip out was a wet one on wet asphalt. When I arrived, I rinsed and dried the chains. The chains came out clean with a light wipe. At this point I was satisfied.
The return trip was just as painful. Four hours of whining and squeaking. Even the traffic noise was a celebration when I didn't have to listen to the squeaking of the chains the entire way.
When I got home, I rinsed and dried the chains again carefully. I added a lot of Magik like the first time and lifted the bike inside to dry as always.
The chains turned white again overnight, but now the chains with surface rust were revealed underneath. No way.
I've done everything I've been advised to do. Insanely careless and extra hassle when compared to the previous one (traditional chain oil, a small drop on the joints and the extra off).
As a reward, I have now received rusty chains and the most unpleasant bike ride ever (four hours of squeaking and grinding when the lubrication ran out at 100 km).
And all this has cost money and an incredible amount of time (effort).
Black Magik was a huge disappointment. Not going again.
I give a plus that Black Magik worked for 100 km and the chain came out clean with a light wipe.
I do not recommend it for longer trips. If you do not add wax during the trip.
