Good-looking shoes. They'll probably work well for a week-long hiking trip. If they could come up with a more durable alternative to the urethane rubber in the midsole, that would be great. If this low-cut shoe were to be worn year-round, the sole might last longer.

The previous pair of these shoes were a complete diamond. In these new ones, some design change has occurred so that the seam or some other heel stiffener presses against the outer metatarsal bone and does not want to adjust to fit the foot.

Third Meindls and second GTXs in a row. Despite heavy use, the construction lasts me about 10 years. Eventually the sole comes off its base so that it cannot be replaced. The heel is easy to repair. The shoemaker puts a wedge in it for a couple of decades when the heel is worn out. The Goretex membrane lasts the entire life of the shoe and your feet don't get wet, even if the shoe is wet on the outside for a day. It is stiff and made for rocky terrain. My experience is based on alpine trips, Finnish dangerous slopes, ridges and daily city walks. I like the stiffness and the fact that the shoe has a heel that raises your hip when walking. Doesn't tire you all day. The hardness of the Vibram sole of this model is hard. As a result, it is surprisingly slippery in winter snow. The only downside. I compare the hardness to Meindl's approach shoes, which have exactly the same Vibram, but so soft that you walk on them smooth in two years.
