Product description

The Lyngen Alps is the name of the mountainous region situated on the 1500 square kilometers Lyngen peninsula, located at 69º North in Northern Norway. The narrow peninsula abounds in sharp peaks, impressive glaciated massifs and valleys.

It is a landscape of contrasts where you can experience deep fjords, a green coastline, alpine meadows with boulders, cold rivers, Arctic fauna and birdlife and, of course, wild mountains. The region, with its 124 peaks above 1000 meters, is Northern Europe`s most pronounced big mountain area.

The white peaks of the Lyngen Alps have attracted the interest of climbers and mountaineers since the 19th Century. The Lyngen Alps are famous around the world for its excellent skiing and breathtaking landscape.

This guidebook is a comprehensive manual to the best skiing and alpine climbing in the Lyngen Alps. It covers the iconic Jiehkkevarri traverse, the easy option Perstinden, the steep couloirs of Jægervasstinden and everything in between.

Climbers get the key to the treasures of unknown Guhkkesgaisa and Piggtinden, the mountain made famous by philosopher Peter Wessel Zapffe. A good selection of ice-climbing routes is also described in the book.

The summer visitor can enjoy the peaks, the valleys, the lakes and the glaciers of The Lyngen Trek, an eight day walk from south to north of the peninsula – or vice versa. A section of daytrips and family friendly activities are also included.

You do not have to go to Himalaya to find sacred summits – or lakes or rocks. Welcome to this remarkable landscape.

A great guidebook though, the border went shut and the bills will go on for summer or next year. It's a bad time to read- :)

Great book. Route descriptions sometimes a bit generous and you drive pretty tight. It is worthwhile to find out the route well from other sources as well and be careful anyway. However, it gives a really good starting point for route planning and nice reading at home when dreaming of Norway.
