It's very spacious. I can fit both parts of the snugpak speacial forces sleep system in the bottom compartment of the pack along with a thermarest air mattress with a little room to spare. It sits snugly around my waist, putting all the weight on the legs and not on the back. It is easily adjustable if you are smaller or taller, or maybe wearing any gear that would push the shoulder straps further outward. My only gripe with the pack is that there is no drain hole in the 2 lower external pockets of the pack. I had to make my own. 4 total, 1 either side of the pockets. This really should come with drain holes from the factory, though. I can't imagine how much of a pain it would be to have those pockets fill up with water during a downpour.
