Choosing the right length
Ski poles for back country use will usually have to be approximately 35-40cm shorter than your own height, as a thumb of rule. Another way to measure, is to pick a pole that is around length from your armpit to the ground or 5cm shorter whilst standing upright.
Skill, experience, use and personal preferences will also influence your choice of length. But be sure to not choose your poles too long, as that hinders blood circulation in the arms, makes it uncomfortable and gives you cold fingers while skiing in cold weather. All in all, it is about personal preferences.

The Sompa is relatively small and sparse, so it sinks into soft snow too much. The steel spike at the tip is a straight extension of the pole and is fairly blunt, and therefore has a poor grip if you have to ski on ice with no snow or only loose powder. The slightly slanted and sharper tip of the Peltonen Metsä pole makes it much more comfortable to ski on ice.

Long handle good, comfortable to use. A fifth star would come if bigger sommas were included as standard

The only special feature is the rod link. I don't really understand how it should be, but with my own tuning it has stayed in hand. Maybe that's right then. Otherwise, OK rods.

A solid kick! Good luck! A bigger bag would be tough, of course.

Poles are great. The new strap system - not so much. I find it difficult to open and close.
