SUP boarding and -touring has been particularly popular even throughout Northern countries in the recent summers. It must have something to do with the fact that there is plenty of water around.
We have selected the SUP brands we represent in our range based on that they all produce high-quality, durable and rigid enough inflatable SUP boards. The boundary between inflatable and rigid plastic- or fiberglass SUP boards has thus definitely narrowed in recent years, as high-quality inflatable boards today are super durable and very rigid.
We often hear the question:
Why are these more than twice expensive as the € 300 SUP board available from the local hypermarket?
The answer is simple. The high-quality inflatable SUP board are rigid enough and floats evenly also with heavier riders. The cheapest models have often compromised on the quality of the materials to such an extent that the board doesn’t get stiff enough.
Cheaper materials are single-layer, while better-quality SUPs have a Double Layer -material. The maximum pressure of a low-quality Air-Sup rotates around 12-15 PSI, while we think 15 PSI is the absolute minimum pressure you should put on an inflatable SUP.
Almost all SUPs in our selection can withstand its maximum pressure of 25 PSI, with the recommended operating pressure being around 18-20 PSI.
Most of the hypermarket SUPs are perfect for children to play at the summer cottage, but for hiking and touring, they are too limp. The low-quality inflatable SUP board will bend into a banana shape under the paddler and thus develops significantly more water resistance than a board that is rigid and straight enough.
Travel- / touring SUPs have clearly been the most popular models from our selection recently. The travel / touring SUP is a little longer and more streamlined than the so-called Allround-Sup. The travel SUP is especially suitable for camping use: the board will withstand heavier loads, so you can easily bring your entire weekend's or week's camping gear on the deck of the SUP board.
Allround-SUPs, in the other hand, are quite stable and are well suited for the little ones to use at the cottage beach and for parents to perform local excursions in the nearby bays. You can even do SUP yoga or other soup exercises with Allround-SUPs.
