Small crustaceans such as Gammarus / sea fleas are an important food resource for both small and large sea trout. Although these saltwater prey animals must be said to be modest in size, they can attract large sea trout within easy reach. If there is good access to small crustaceans, the fish can become selective - at least in shape, size and movement. At the same time, you may find that the fish is easy to spook, so a long thin tippet and delicate presentations can be crucial. This fishing (which may be more reminiscent of lake fishing than saltwater fishing) is part of the explanation of why rod class 5 has become a current weight class also in saltwater. But UV gammarus also has another application; dropper fly. Fishing a team of two flies on the leader is popular among many sea trout fishermen when the wind let them do it. A gammarus is a natural choice.

Guideline offers UV Gammarus in three different versions. They are quite different from each other. For example, try the white one if you see the fish feed on gammarus that live in the free water masses, white is also a good colour for winter fishing in general. Where there are significant elements of seaweed, it may be most convenient to put on an olive UV Gammarus, but an orange or copper base can sometimes be more effective.

UV Gammarus is light weigted and approx. 16mm long. Most of the weight is located on the underside of the hook so that the fly does not twist/turn upside down so easily. Many sea trout fishermen believe that sea trout flies tied with UV materials are extremely effective. The body of our flies is made of UV dubbing. Also remember to flush the fly in fresh water after use, dubbing bodies collect a lot of salt water, so these are extra important to rinse.
