Product description

The new Falketind 62 Xplore is a wide and ultra-light backcountry ski designed, simply, to be great fun. It has been tuned to perform excellently in combination with the new Xplore binding system, as well as a few small tweaks to the camber, tail and performance. Its generous sidecut makes it excellent on the turn – for the 180cm ski, a radius of 18.7 meters.

Designed with a moderate wax pocket and constructed with a responsive poplar wood core, carbon-reinforced for optimum torsional characteristics, the Falketind Xplore is ideal for those planning longer trips in demanding and steep terrain. It is the ski for those who love to be on skis – climbing far for the pleasure of the descent.

Falketind skis are equipped with Skinlock, ready for an X-Skin (short skin) to be instantly locked in place when climbing.

Choosing the right length

Ski length is determined according to body weight and height. The table below is only a guide, however – experience, skill, terrain, and individual needs can all influence your choice of length.

Generally speaking, moving through rugged terrain calls for shorter skis than the open mountain plateau. And for beginners, short skis are easier to control. If you’re mainly skiing along tracks, the length isn’t the most crucial factor. For good float on deep snow, a slighter wider ski is useful. Lighter skiers might consider a shorter ski; heavier skiers a longer ski. Skiers with loads such as backpacks and sleds might consider a longer ski.

Amazing crossover ski, perfect for telemark with Alfa free boots. Have used these in southern Quebec and Baffin Island in varied conditions from ice to powder and they handle it all very well.

Fun and beautiful skis! At 182 cm/70 kg, I took 188 long skis, which are actually 186 cm. The size is just right - I could do with shorter ones, especially if I were cutting tighter woods. Even a 174-centimeter has fallen quite nicely with these. You will mostly visit fells and less forest. It doesn't depend on the agility, but on the driver, that you don't want to go to denser places! The shape of the tip is quite low, i.e. it does not rise very much, so if there is more than 10cm of soft on the surface, the tip dives under the surface when skiing. Except if you let the rocker push to the surface. So they are not actual ski touring skis. There are better options for that. On a side slope, with Kant's support, these want to constantly rise up to a steeper angle because of the side cut. However, the skis are surprisingly skiable. You don't have to walk to the sides on the trail bottom, you can go up the fells with grip creams. Fast and fun to ski, even though it's quite low and soft on the feet. The declared weight was correct, they feel unreal light for the size of the ski. Grip creams have been applied from heel to toe, slips and holds brilliantly. It doesn't really lose in speed to my other narrower downhill skis on a hard base. Now we've managed with creams, so we couldn't find a use for the half-hairs. Long bristles are better for steeper terrain, works better in soft snow. In soft snow, when the toe and tail support enough that underfoot the half fur may not get full grip on the soft ground. Otherwise, even soft snow is fine. So they are stable, nimble and fast to ski. There are no games in incredibly deep snow with a width of 62mm underfoot. Then the other boards. These are excellent for practicing telemarking, making long transitions towards the fells, and even day trips bring their own fun flavor. The downhill element is still the main idea in these skis. The Xplore bindings were put on and the Alpina Alaska XP was now on. With a stiffer mono, you would get even more out of the ski, on the other hand, the bottom of the Alaska is really loose compared to other Xplore monos and folds in the right place, so if you like the feel, it's the right choice.
