Extra large twelve litre backpack side pouch with rudimentary internal organization and external compression strap loops. Really nothing too fancy, but just what you need from a side pouch on your backpack. With a capacity of twelve litres this is a very large side pouch, the PALS attachment is five channels wide. Best used on large and tall backpacks of 70-100+ litres.
The zipper is covered for added water repellency and protection from abrasion and dirt. The vertical webbing on the front keeps the compression straps of your backpack neatly in place over the pouch, allowing them to properly compress the pouch as well. These can also be used as attachment points for bungee cords, carabiners and stuff like that.
A 25 mm webbing loop and D-ring on the top of the rear interior wall allow you to secure small and important stuff, the flat rear compartment offers rudimentary organization for smaller stuff. The bottom and bottom halves of the sides are lined with 210D polyamide for added abrasion resistance. A grommet offers drainage of any water that may seep into the pouch.
The rear features our standard PALS attachment webbing system with tuck tabs. The middlemost horizontal webbing rows were eliminated as they didn’t really do anything besides add weight. We aren’t a ultralight gear manufacturer, but even we don’t like unnecessary weight.
The two vertical attachment straps leave a approx. 13 cm wide gap between them, this allows you to carry stuff such as axes, fishing poles etc. stuffed down behind the pouch.
Note. Savotta manufactures this product in Finland and Estonia. Country of manufacture is labeled to the product.

Top material, top workmanship, simple and robust concept.
A good investment as a supplement to the Jäger XL. I attached the side pouches to the Jäger XL at the maximum possible height in order to still be able to access the side pockets (water bottle holder with elastic band) of the Jäger XL. It just ends. Bottles or other larger objects then no longer fit in the side pocket of the XL, since the pouches are already in the way. This means that the pouch ends exactly where the side pocket of the Jäger XL begins. If you attach the pouch a little lower, you can no longer get to the side pocket of the Jäger XL. In combination with the smaller Jäger L and M, I can't say anything, but I suspect that it will be too tight here. So keep this in mind before you buy!
Like all Savotta products (and most of the competition as well), the side pouches are not rainproof after hours of continuous rain, as a few drops on the sides of the zippers get lost inside. There is a drain hole on the bottom for this. But I'm talking about hours of continuous rain with very strong gusts of wind. So if you are out and about in such conditions, you have completely different worries than the few droplets inside. Under normal weather conditions, I consider the Savotta products to be rainproof.
The price is a bit high, but I assume that the part will outlive me.
The shipping to Germany worked wonderfully, even if Varuste needs well over 1 week for each order from me, even though the products are in stock. That's a bit annoying. In the ordering system there is a different "packer" every day who is said to be packing your order right now. And that then changes daily until after a week it was supposedly sent with a tracking ID. With the tracking ID, it then takes another two days for the shipping company to announce that they have taken delivery of the goods. So just plan some time when ordering from Varuste or spend more money and order directly in Germany for a few euros more.

Great sized pouch, I could fit my tent in it and have extras on top like my pack's raincover. Yet to fully explore the packing options, but it was a great addition. Downside is that they're weighty, but this happens when the materials are durable.
