Hot waxing is an increasingly popular way to lubricate chains. The solid wax does not collect dirt and keeps the entire drivetrain clean, repelling dirt very well. Black Diamond Hot Wax chain wax combines Black Diamond's highly lubricating additive technology with Rex's over 70 years of experience in paraffins. Switching to hot waxing makes it much easier to keep your bike clean, and protects your chains and sprockets from wear. A hot waxed chain does not mess up or stain, and can be cleaned with just hot water.
To ensure high quality, Rex has put all the Black Diamond additives in one black block. The additive block is like a bottle of Black Diamond chain oil in solid form. Eleven white Rex paraffin blocks are a carefully selected wax blend, and when combined with the additive block, they ensure excellent lubrication. By melting all the blocks (11+1) together, you get a wax blend that works great in all conditions.
By melting the additive block with four light wax blocks (4+1), you get a mixture that provides extreme wear resistance for even the longest runs and races. The remaining 7 wax blocks can be used as a cleaning pre-treatment wax, keeping the 4+1 mixture clean and maintaining its performance for longer. Two-step wax treatment in one package!
Instructions for chain lubrication
1. Before first use, clean the chain thoroughly with a solvent cleaner such as Rex Chain Cleaner. A good cleaning will improve wax adhesion and prolong the life of the lubricant. If the chain has previously been treated with hot wax, simply rinsing with hot water and wiping is sufficient.
2. Melt all the wax blocks over low heat (max. 100°C) e.g. in a saucepan, together with the chain to be treated. Let the chain warm up, and mix it with the wax so that the wax penetrates the chain completely. You can treat several chains at the same time.
3. Lift the chain to cool. The treatment has been successful if the chain is stiff. Flex the chain joints and install them. The chain will still flex after a few kilometers of riding.
4. Re-wax the chain when it is noisy. To keep the wax clean for longer, first rinse the chain with hot water, wipe and let it dry well. Then repeat the waxing process.

A really bad product for cycling in the southern winter! Less than 200km of riding and the chains are completely rusty. Water and salt are absolutely poison for this. Some dry frosty weather is fine, but even a little moisture and rusting starts. Tested with a standard mixture.
