My first experience with this type of quick-lock lace... assembly following the instructions was easy, though I had to adjust the length a bit so the end wouldn't get caught under the shoe—or you can just tuck the end under the lacing itself. I’ve been using them for a few weeks now and the experience has been positive; they are quick to tighten to the desired fit and easy to loosen. I think I’ll get a few more pairs for my other shoes, because with these, that nagging worry about regular laces coming undone is completely gone. Five stars is a fitting rating.

Quicklace has its place, but I recommend carrying spare laces with you if you're going on a longer trip. Laces tend to break from time to time, and as a last resort, I've managed to tie the broken ends together. This last resort has worked in daily use for about a couple of weeks to a month. The actual reason for lace breakage is in the shoes, not the laces themselves. In shoes that have been used a little longer (I have the XA forces mid), the edges of the metal lace holes form sharp edges due to wear. For the shoes in question, it seems that the metal guides have been updated to fabric with plastic inserts in the new product images, which solves the problem. I myself managed to rotate the metal guide 180 degrees so that there is a clean surface against the lace and the breakages have stopped there. The shoes will soon be ready to be replaced anyway. In some laces, the plastic buckle/fastener is worse than in others, meaning the laces may loosen during use if you don't pay special attention to the tightening process. Despite the disadvantages, I have two Salomon shoes with quicklace in daily use. Quite often I end up putting on one of these instead of putting on shoes with traditional laces.
